It is 2:45am and I have been up since 1:15am with a case of rice cereal gone wrong. Let me explain...

Landry's pediatrician told me I could start putting a small amount of rice cereal in her bottle when she was 3 months old to help with her reflux. I bought the box of cereal last week in anticipation of the big day. I'll admit I cheated started a few days early because I was looking forward to the side benefit of better sleep from a baby with a little extra something in her tummy. Seeing that it is 2:45am and I am typing this, it seems my somewhat selfish plan has gone astray.
At 6pm I devised my plan....rice cereal in Landry's 6pm 8pm bottles would equal a great night sleep. Landry struggled to drink her bottle because the rice kept clogging her low flow nipple. It was a sad sight to see her suck so hard to get absolutely nothing. I switched out the nipple for a "big girl" nipple made for 3 month old babies. The milk was flowing and poor Landry was drowning in it...she was so traumatized that she refused to eat. I switched to a different brand of bottle for her 8pm feeding and she was able to drink without drowning. Sweet success for a restful night was on my doorstep.

I was in bed at 11, thinking how nice it would be to sleep until the alarm went off at 5:30. I even had jealous thoughts thinking that Pat might get to sleep until 7 or 7:30. I couldn't have been more wrong. When I heard Landry start to fuss I looked at the clock and did not believe my eyes when I saw that it was just 1 something. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me so I rubbed the sleep out of them and checked the time again... .still 1am. Are you are kidding me? Doesn't our baby know that she is supposed to sleep longer with rice cereal in her tummy??? Pat began feeding her and she was fit- full and quite frankly, just not enjoying her food like she normally does. Was she having flashbacks to the drowning incident? A few moments later the blowout diaper occurred. No wonder she was having issues eating - it is hard to eat and poop at the same time. I cleaned her up, changed her jammies and Pat finished feeding her. They cuddled on the couch for awhile then Pat tried to put her back to bed. She would have none of it. She was wide awake and wanted to socialize then her tummy started to cramp really bad. So here I sit with my precious baby who is having intermittent intestional distress insteading of sleeping the night away. I have been asked this question many, many times and I have answered it many different ways. My responses have ranged from a simple "No" to a sarcastic "Seriously" - who plans to have a new baby when their youngest child is 11 - almost 12. I even told one person "yes - I thought it would be fun and interesting to parent a teenager, a pre-teen and an infant at the same time." I have even tried a more spiritual answer, "God planned it." On Saturday I ran into the mother of one of one of Nicole's former teammates at a softball tournament and she said, I heard you got a "bonus baby." It is now after 4am... I am going to try my luck at putting my sweet angel in bed and see if I can get an hour of sleep before starting my Monday.

I put Landry in her bed at 4:22am Pat got up with her at 4:30am. She slept in his arms in 5-10 minute chunks of time in between crying fits due to lots and lots of tummy trouble. I feel pretty confident that I will not be putting rice cereal in her bottle tonight. My lesson from this experience......do not try new foods in the evening.

Conclusion - potentially this offers the greatest convenience but be prepared that your calls will cost you more. The most likely outcome will be that your carrier does not offer an international service, or if they do, you do not own the right type of handset.
2. Rent an international cell phone
If you cannot use your own cell phone abroad then you can rent an international cell phone that will work, just for the period of your trip. The cost of the calls will vary, depending on what type of SIM card the rental phone uses. If it uses a global SIM card then your calls will be higher priced, but if you are traveling to a number of countries you will keep the same number. If it uses a local SIM card your calls will be cheaper, but you will need a different local SIM card for each country you plan to visit.
Conclusion - rental sounds like a good idea, but you can now buy your own second cell phone, just for traveling, for the same price as one or two weeks rental charges, so that might be a more cost efficient option for you.
3. Buy your own international cell phone

So much seems to have happened since I last wrote. We enjoyed 10 days in Kauai. You can't beat the awesome weather and the temperature of the water over there. It is so nice! What a beautiful view we had for 10 days. Getting back to reality has been a bit rough this week.

For those 10 days we enjoyed day after day of swimming in the pool, hitting the waves at the beach, boogie boarding, Coconut smoothies with chocolate swirl, strawberry smoothies, fruit galore (especially honey dew and pineapple), great tasting Opah (fish), salad bars, best tasting hummus, great fitness center, beautiful sunshine every day, laying by the pool in our cocoon( it was like a bed with pillows and cushions to lay on by the pool), getting a nice tan, a dinner out just Todd and I and the nice weather in the evening that allowed us to walk along the beach and see the gorgeous moon every night. Just writing this is making me sad that we still aren't over there.

Ellie had her 2nd b'day while we were there. It wasn't the typical b'day celebration that we are used to and so we will celebrate with candles and cupcakes this week some time. She had chocolate mousse with a strawberry on top for her b'day dessert. She is so dang cute. I will have to write a post all on it's own about Ellie turning 2.

Our flight to and from was much better than I thought it would be with all 4 kids. I was well stocked with all of the kids favorite snacks. The morning of our flight to Hawaii was a bit hectic. We stayed at the Marriott next to the airport the night before so we would be close. As we were loading the shuttle with all of our goods, I realized that the boarding passes were in the car so Todd ran to go get them. The shuttle driver then said we have to leave. I said well, my husband is getting our passes and I can't leave without them. Mind you all of my kids are sitting on the shuttle with our luggage in the there waiting to leave. I ended up having to get on with the 4 kids, all of the luggage and head to the airport without Todd. I was a bit nervous as to how well the kids would listen to me at the busy San Francisco Airport. It was quite interesting how I just went into survivor mode and got the job done somehow, someway. I knew Todd would be getting the next shuttle over so no big deal on meeting up with him. The problem was that I had six bags, 2-3 carry ons and each child had a back pack on that I had to manage getting from the shuttle drop off into the line for check in. It was interesting but we did it. I had to fill out little tags for every piece of luggage while the kids sat patiently. The kids were so good. I was so happy that I wasn't having to chase Ellie anywhere and that the older ones kept a watch out for me. Todd met up with us while waiting in line. My body was physically shaking once I got rid of all of the luggage, put Ellie down and was able to catch my breath. Everything was just too heavy to handle myself but I managed. The boys and Emily were a big help!!

We then were able to board the plane and get situated. We took Ellie's car seat which was the best thing we have ever done. She loves her seat and climbed right in. We were to leave at 9:30. The captain came on at 9:30 and said they were going to have to repair a seal on the engine and that it would be a while. Todd's face was priceless. He doesn't like the flying part of the trip and wasn't thrilled to say the least to hear that kind of information. Poor guy. It ended up being an hour and half sitting there in the plane waiting to take off. The kids did well. Ellie didn't want to get out of her seat. She stayed in for a long while and then got out. She does really well. Once we got into the air, we discovered that the boys had left all of their DS games in the truck. We happen to have one game that they could share. Another bummer was that the 2 dvd players that we brought that I so diligently charged the night before were dead and not able to play a movie. The power button got switched on and ran down the battery. I thought what in the world are we going to do with these 4 kids for 5 hours. Casey pretty much ate his bag of snacks in the first 30 minutes. The poor kid was bored stiff. Ellie did sleep for about 2 hours of the trip. She was manageable and did great. The kids love flying! It was a bit stressful for me because the people that were sitting in front of the boys were so not kid friendly. I could hardly stand the looks that they would give when the boys would put down the trays (it would move their seats and apparently they didn't like it one bit.) It was killing me.

We got there and enjoyed our stay at the Kauai Marriott. I was able to get a massage on the beach under the cabanna the day before we left. WOW!! I have never had a massage and this was the life. I can see why people get them often. It was so incredible. I was so relaxed and enjoyed it so much! I've got to figure how to get them here at home often. :D
The hardest part of the trip was dealing with the kids and the lack of sleep that they were getting. My kids don't sleep in and so they were up so dang early every day. It was a bit taxing to deal with the irrational little ones day in day out. It was nice to get out and go to dinner just Todd and I. We enjoyed a nice view of gorgeous trees, ocean, tiki torches lit up, and wonderful food. I realized how often I can't enjoy my dinner when the kids are with us. It's just too busy with all of them to really stop and enjoy my food. I can't complain. I had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back. :D

Here are some photos............The beach scenes were the view from our room. It was so nice to just sit and watch the waves. At night we would open the doors and listen to the waves crash as we laid in bed. It was a little bit of heaven and I loved it. One of these pictures was the view of our pool that we sat at and swam in every day.

Syracuse, NY -- Suspended wide receiver Mike Williams may yet have an opportunity to return to Syracuse University, but it's doubtful he'll be on campus for the fall semester or play this season for the Orange.
Williams was accused of cheating on at least two occasions in one class including a final examination during the spring semester, according to a source. Head coach Greg Robinson said last week that Williams was not enrolled in school, though he declined to say why and cited student privacy laws.
Based on the University's Academic Integrity Policy, which covers cheating by students, Williams likely went through hearings before the Office of Judicial Affairs and the Academic Integrity Office to answer the allegations. That process may have begun some time in late April - which would have included time when Williams was participating in spring football practice - and continued through final examinations and through the end of May.
What remains unclear is whether Williams was suspended or expelled by the university. It's also unknown whether Williams committed a second violation of the University's Academic Integrity Policy or if the two infractions in one class counted as a singular instance.
iThose are key distinctions if Williams plans to seek re-enstatement as a student at SU. According to the Judicial System Handbook at SU, a student who is expelled for committing a second violation of the University's Academic Integrity Policy (i.e. cheating) cannot return to school. A student that is suspended following a second violation must not attend classes the following semester.
In the case of Williams, if he was suspended for committing a second violation of cheating, that suspension would be for the fall semester. He can seek reinstatement for spring semester of 2009.
One source said "suspension" was accurate and fair. Another said Williams has told Robinson he wants to return, though another said Williams may be investigating the possibility of transferring to a Division I-AA school. In that instance, Williams could transfer and be eligible to play this fall.
Efforts seeking comment from Williams have been unsuccessful.

What we're witnessing (if Stewart Mandel's postulate comes to fruition) is the migration of coaching talent to the Big Ten and there following the ascendancy of the conference back to elite (read: SEC) levels.

Truth be told, with Ohio State the only truly elite program in the Big Ten, and repeatedly coming up short when it counted most, the SEC is better top to bottom right now. But the difference isn't the mythical 'Southern Speed,' it's coaching.

Look at number of household name coaches in the SEC last year: Phil Fulmer, Urban Meyer, Les Miles, Mark Richt, Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Tommy Tuberville (and, some might argue Houston Nutt).

Counting Bobby Petrino this year for a total of 8 elite level coaches, it is no wonder that with this embarrassment of riches, the SEC is College Football's most dominant league.

By comparison, the Big Ten had just three coaches worthy of mention in the same breath as the above: Lloyd Carr, Joe Pa and Jim Tressel. (Kirk Ferentz, Joe Tiller and Ron Zook deserve possible inclusion in the 'household names' category, but few would argue they are on par with any of the SEC bunch, save possibly Nutt.)

In this case, Joe Pa himself deserves special consideration as a coach who (almost everyone but the most shameless Penn State homers would agree) is well past his prime and in modern usage no longer 'elite.' So the prospect of swapping in Schiano for Paterno on the heels of the Rodriguez for Carr deal, in my eyes is a net win for the Big Ten in terms of coaching strength.

Some out there even think Zook has the tools to be elite, but one thing is certain, with the SEC as saturated at it currently is, young coaching talent will be looking elsewhere for opportunities and I think we'll see more of this stuff landing in fertile, Midwestern pastures.

In verse two, we can immediately recognize that Agur was a humble and intelligent man. How do we know this? Because he immediately stated his lack of understanding and need for enlightenment from God. Usually, if a person is candid enough to admit the need for God's wisdom, it is a good indicator that he or she is truly intelligent.

In verse four, Agur asked a series of rhetorical questions that emphasized God's greatness, and that He is the source to which all people should turn for life's answers. Just as people today attempt to answer life's questions without His help, we need to follow Agur's advice and look for daily help from God. If we lean too heavily on our own knowledge, we risk being led astray.

In verses five and six, he emphasized that God is perfect, and He is available to us for comfort and guidance. Knowing that God is perfect helps us because it means He is completely dependable. Relationships with people may come and go in our lives, but He will always be there no matter what.

The passage's final three verses contain Agur's plea for protection. He wanted God to protect him from falsehoods and lies and the dull aching pain they can bring. He also wanted protection from poverty and riches.

Agur was obviously aware of the impact materialism can have on us. If he had too little, it would be tempting for him to steal to provide for himself, bringing dishonor to God. If he had too much, it might lead to arrogance in which he viewed himself as the source of his wealth and not God.
