A great game of cards is a beauty to behold. The thrill of the game and the opportunity to see players pit themselves against the deck and each other is a thrilling bit of history in the making. But there is one series of card games that stands out from the others. It is the World Series of Poker held each year. Here, a winning hand pays more than a mere hundred dollars. It is worth millions of dollars and it all rides on how well the player can pit himself or herself against the others sitting at the table.

Jokers Wild Video Poker - A Winning Strategy
You play Jokers Wild with a 53-card deck, the regular 52-card deck, plus a joker.
The joker is a wild card, which you can use as any card you want. This increases the chance of getting a winning combination.
On average, the joker appears in about one out of every ten hands, making Jokers wild an exciting game to play.
Keep in Mind the Following Points:
Play the Better Game - There are two versions of the Joker Wild game.
One version returns your bet on a two-pair hand. The Jokers Wild strategy presented below is for the other (better) game that gives back your money if you HAVE a pair of kings or aces.
Always Play Maximum Coins Per Game - As the payout for five coins played is far greater than five times the payout for only one coin.
Play at Machines that Offer a Full Pay Schedule - The full house pay schedule for jokers wild will be a 7 / 5 machine i.e. 7 Coins for full house and 5 for the flush.
Kings or Better Joker Wild Strategy
If the Hand youre Dealt Contains the Joker: Keep all hands that are three-of-a-kind or higher, except hold four cards to the royal flush, even if it means discarding a paying hand of lower value.
Always remember that you are looking to hold the joker as a part of ANY combination.
Keep any four-card straight flush and a four-card flush if it includes K, A or both.
Keep three cards to a royal flush.
Keep a paying pair of high cards (King, Ace).
Keep any three cards to a straight flush.
Keep any four-card flush without King or Ace.
Keep consecutive four-card straights.
If not dealt any of the above, keep the Joker only.
If youre dealt a Hand without the Joker:
Keep all paying hands, except hold a four-card royal flush.
Keep any four cards to a straight flush and any three cards to a royal flush.
Keep four cards to any flush.
Keep any pair of 2s to Queens.
Keep any three cards to a straight flush.
Keep any four-card consecutive straight.
Keep two cards to a royal flush if one of the cards is an Ace or King.
Keep unsuited King and Ace.
Keep King or Ace alone.
Keep two suited royal flush cards lower than King or Ace.
If you dont hold any of the above, draw five new cards.
Jokers Wild a Fun Exciting Game
Jokers Wild is a fun and exciting game and is very popular - second only to Jacks-or-Better and Deuces Wild.
By playing with the above strategy, you will not only have fun but increase your chances of success as well.

I have always believed in being honest. I dont lie to other people. For me, even worse than lying to other people, is lying to yourself. In poker you have to be realistic about your own ability. Sure at the table you can lie. Its all part of the game. Maybe one of the reasons I love the game is because I can lie at the table and not feel bad about it.  But I dont lie to myself about my ability. If you are not realistic about your ablilty you are a danger to yourself and your bankroll.
I dont know how many times I have heard someone say you gotta be confident, if youre not confident youre going to lose. Look at Phil Hellmuth. Hes confident. So are all the top players. Youve got no chance if youre not confident.  Lets look at this from a different angle. How many truly awful players have you seen who are convinced theyre tremendous players and are bursting with confidence? How many losers have you seen who are convinced that theyre just having a run of bad luck? How many DAG (dumb and aggressive) players have you seen at the table convinced theyre the new Gus Hansen? They go through hundreds, even thousands, in just one night. They have a pile of chips which is roughly worth about a tenth of what they paid to get them. They then proceed to tell people how to play. In fact how many poker players have you met who are convinced they are great, or at least very good? The answer is, just about all of them. Some of them are average, some of them are good or very good, a few of them are great, but most of them are awful.
So you have a handful of great players who are super confident, and hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of truly godawful players who are equally as confident. I think you can see the difference. The reason the great players are confident is simply because they have every right to be. Their confidence is based on results. You also have a ton of players who have absolutely no right to be confident at all. In fact they should be just the opposite. What they need is to be honest with themselves. They need to realise how much they need to improve to win. The more realistic people are about their ability, the more chance they have to improve. Confidence should be based on results, not self delusion.
I have seen really young players at the table with a ton of chips. They seem to know a lot about the game, and play with a freedom, that only players who havent experienced the downside of the game, can play. They talk to one another about all their finals tables. They love the game. They live and breathe it. Everything they do seems to earn them chips. They make it look so easy, but six months later they are gone. One ot two may move up in level. but I have rarely seen any of them on tv. Most just disappear, never to return. Why?
First of all, the game is never easy, even for the very best players. Some of the rookie players start with a lot of money or make a lot of money very quickly. For some, the game may seem easy, or be easy for a time. But after this, the cold reality of the game will hit home. Once the luck starts to even out, and these players experience the sort of run you and I know is inevitable, then you will see how good these new players really are. Some will make it. Some learn very quickly about the nature of the game. They will be able to play through the despair and desperation that continually going in with the best of it, but losing will bring. If they can get through that the first time it happens, they are in with a real chance. It is one of the biggest hurdles in any poker players career. Anyone who cant play through this is unlikely to make it big.
I cant. I just cant take it. I know I cant, and I have been honest with myself, and I shall be honest with you in saying I cant. But I can handle it, and that is something different. What I mean by this is, that once things start going bad, I drop down to the lowest levels possible, and start to play very infrequently. This way I protect my bankroll and my sanity. It also means I continue to play poker. Everyone has to deal with it in their own way. I have adapted my poker game to my character, and this is the way I deal with the down side of the game. It means I keep playing because even in the worst years and worst luck, I dont do enough damage to myself psychologically or to my bankroll,  that I can no longer play the game. It also means I am a winner in the long run. It means I will not be a big winner in the long run, but I will, at least, be a winner. It is my way of dealing with the downside. You have to find some way of dealing with it. My advice, for what its worth, is know that running bad is coming, and prepare yourself enough to know how youre going to deal with it, when it hits. I also know enough about the game, to know how much better the top players are. I am realistic about my ability, so I play at a level where I can win a little rather than lose a lot.
One of the most annoying and gut wrenching things when youre running bad, is to see some idiot at the table doing everything wrong and making a boat load of chips. They seem to go in behind on every hand, and yet still win. You start to say to yourself, well maybe if I played like that But this can be very deceptive. This is losing poker. It is so tempting, but dont forget were talking in the long term. Players do get very lucky in the short term. It is part of the game. Thats why good players make money. Thats why you see old and very experienced players still making money at the game. They make money out of people who have this get rich quick attitude. Because for every young hopeful who makes it to a finals table playing like he or she can never fold a hand, or never need to, there are a thousand others who have lost their money very quickly playing like this.
I dont blame anyone who knows they are a really crap player, but wants to make it big, for playing like this. Be honest with yourself here too. If you cant play well, it seems your best hope is to realise this, and play the game like bingo. Throw it all in when behind in a big tourney, suck out a few times, and youre at a finals table. The great thing about the game as it is now is, you may never need to win at the game again. There are sponsors out there who are willing to pay high profile players according to how silly their hat is. Dont forget the sponsors dont care whether you win or not in the long term, they just care about how much tv time you get. This means you could be a truly average, or even very bad, losing player, but still win at poker, because of the money you are picking up from sponsors. As long as you have a gimmick, or wear silly clothes you have a real chance of being an overall winner in a game youre lousy at. Yes, its an expensive long shot. Youll probably lose, but the main thing is to know what you are trying to do and why.
But if you see players continually going in behind and sucking out, try and work out how much they have to spend on playing this way. Think about how many times you have gone in with all your chips as hot favourite. Now think of the times you have lost. Now think of the times you will lose as a big underdog. Frightening isnt it? If it isnt, it should be. Fear is in our psychological makeup for a very good reason. It protects us. It tries to curb our more adventurous and dangerous inclinations. This is present to protect the human race. Just as you need some adventurous spirit, you need some fear and respect for certain situations too. This is an inherent way of protecting you. It doesnt mean you have to play frightened, but you have to use common sense. Use all your skills as a player to try and win. You do this by outplaying your opponent. This really doesnt have to be complicated. You dont need to think at the 3rd or 4th level here. Sometimes it can just be as simple as going in as 70 per cent favourite against your opponents 30 per cent. If you have done this, you have outplayed them.
If youre not very good at the game and know it, but still want to enjoy playing then thats fine too. Just accept that youre not very good and youre playing poker as a hobby. Hobbies cost money. But I think if you accept this, it will cost you less money and heartbreak in the long run. In fact, be realistic at whatever level you play. Most of the class players are always talking about how difficult the game is to master. Theres always something to learn. Accept this, be realistic about your ability, and you may end up learning a lot about the game, and be a better player for it.

The world has 117 days to figure out who the heck these guys at the World Series of Pokers final table are.
Earlier this year, WSOP commissioner Jeffrey Pollack made the call to postpone the MEs final table for four months. He claimed that one of the benefits was that the public would get a chance to know the participants. It seemed like an acceptable idea at the time, but now that the WSOP is down to its final 9 players I just want to see who wins!
Ill tell you who wont be winning. Phil Hellmuth. The Poker Brat was eliminated on Sunday when his AQ ran into Jacks. Poor Phil. I can only imagine what the next 11 months of living with him would be like.
So, who will win? Somebody youve never heard of. Heres the Final Nine
Seat 1: Dennis Phillips 26,295,000
Seat 7: Ivan Demidov 24,400,000
Seat 4: Scott Montgomery 19,690,000
Seat 9: Peter Eastgate 18,375,000
Seat 3: Ylon Schwartz 12,525,000
Seat 5: Darus Suharto 12,520,000
Seat 6: David Rheem 10,230,000
Seat 2: Craig Marquis 10,210,000
Seat 8: Kelly Kim 2,620,000
Dean Hamrick, of East Lansing, finished on the final table bubble in 10th place when his AJ ran into Marquis pocket queens. Hamrick still won $591,869. Not too shabby.

The 68-year-old won his privacy case against the News of the World last week and was awarded 60,000 in compensation after the newspaper had accused him of taking part in a "Nazi orgy" with five prostitutes in an article in March.

Mosley did not dispute taking part in the sadomasochistic role-play at a rented Chelsea basement flat, but said it was consensual and private and strenuously denied any Nazi overtones.

The presiding judge in the case, Mr Justice Eady, said last week: "I found there was no evidence that the gathering on 28 March 2008 was intended to be an enactment of Nazi behaviour or adoption of any of its attitudes."

But Mosley still faces calls to quit his post following the revelations about his private life, but he insists it should have no bearing on his role at the FIA and urged his critics to "grow up".

"The truth of the matter is this: that no grown-up person gives the slightest damn about what other people do in their sex lives. It's not even a subject for discussion," he told Autosport magazine.

"All these people who failed in Formula 1 - and Jackie Stewart fits into that category, although 40 years ago he was a brilliant driver - they sit on the outside offering advice, but no one seriously considers them.

"Winning the case was good because it stopped all the nonsense about Nazism - that's the thing that really mattered. Now, as far as doing the job is concerned, the Nazi thing will have no effect at all on me."

Mosley, who confirmed yesterday that he plans to stand down as FIA president in October next year, still believes the News of the World story was a set-up instigated by a third party.

"I think there is a strong probability that the News of the World did not just chance on it," he added.

"That is being investigated very carefully and in great detail at the moment, and sooner or later we will know exactly what happened.

One thing that always puzzles me about poker is how it seems that certain people in the game can dominate live cash games and/or online ring games but they cant find their way off the first couple of tables in a big tournament.  The reverse can be true as well where great tournament players will get taken for all theyre worth in a good cash game.
The reason this puzzles me is because the Texas Holdem rules dont change just because there is a tournament or a cash game.  Its still two hole cards to each player and a board of five cards.  But perhaps the only thing that truly changes is the way that successful players play in each situation.
It wouldnt be a stretch to say that the majority of of successful cash game players follow the tight/aggressive model that hauls in a decent amount of money.  Obviously some people are better at using the tight/aggressive style than others and thus they bring in more cash while theyre playing.
On the flip side, it often seems that aggressive players who are willing to go all-in at any given point (provided they have at least something in their hand) are the ones who double their stacks in tourneys and find themselves competing for spots at the final tables of a lot of tourneys they enter.
These same players who compete in cash games will, in many cases, find their loose and reckless style to be detrimental to a bankroll.  At some tables, their loose play may scare super tight players away from pots but theyll most likely be called with their all-in A-5 bets by someone at sometime.
Oftentimes in a tournament though, this all-in A-5 bet will turn out to be a winner because the tight players dont want to risk their entire (or a large portion) of their stack by calling this bet.  And it is these tight players (who may excel at cash games) that are rarely ever found at the top of a tournament leaderboard.  They merely try to hang on and, in the process, never try to build their stack till its too late.
In my opinion, cash game players looking to play more tournaments and tourney players looking to get in on more cash games can learn something from one another.  Its best to switch ones style up when changing games.

Some people may want to indulge in sight seeing while others may want to visit their relatives. Some people travel frequently for business purposes. The fact is over-cards can be some of the trickiest hands to play well if they dont connect with the board. So how do you avoid going broke when you whiff with your overs? In the words of Kenny Rogers, you gotta know when to hold em and you gotta know when to fold s say youre in late position or in the blinds with over-cards and are facing an all-in bet after seeing a ragged flop like 8-5-3 rainbow. What do you do? The answer is an unequivocal It depends. First of all, what could your opponent possibly be betting here? Top pair? An over-pair? A set? Your read of your opponents hand should greatly influence your decision because if hes holding anything but a set, you may have odds to call.
That brings me to the next question: how much is he betting? If your opponents all-in bet is worth half the pot or less, I think you have to call with any two over-cards so long as you think theyre still live. Over-cards give you six potential outs to the board, meaning that youre only about a 3-1 dog against top pair if you have no straight or flush draw possibilities. Your over-cards may even be ahead if you think your opponent is pushing all-in on his own draw or is bluffing at the pot.
In situations where youre not facing an all-in bet, the decision becomes a little harder because you must not only consider the size of your opponents current bet, but also the size of his next potential bet. If youre both deep stacked and you call on the flop, you could find yourself facing a sizable bet on the turn. In this situation, I believe mucking your hand and looking for a better spot is the preferred option.
Another thing to consider in this type of situation is your position relative to your opponent. If youre playing from position, you may want to consider staying in the hand even if you miss the flop – especially if you can do so cheaply. For one thing, calling a cheap bet on the flop might let you hit one of your overs, giving you what may likely be the best hand. For another thing, being in position can let you try and steal the pot away on the turn or river if your opponent shows further weakness on those streets.
Facing this same situation out of position is much riskier as your opponent has control of the hand and gets to act behind you on every street. Im much more likely to throw my over-cards away here and look to play a better hand later on.
While position can be a key factor in determining if you carry on with your over-cards, the texture of the board is also something to be considered. On a flop like the one earlier – 8-5-3 rainbow – Im much more likely to at least see the turn with my two over-cards than I am if the flop is more coordinated, like 9-8-7 or something that brings flush or straight draw possibilities. Why? Because unless my opponent is holding a pocket pair, its just as likely that he missed the flop the same way I did. On a more coordinated flop, there are more ways for my opponent to connect and, even if I hit one of my cards, I could be drawing dead against a flush or straight.
If Im in a pot with multiple opponents, Im even more likely to play my over-cards conservatively because there are that many more hands that can easily beat me. Where I might try to continuation bet the flop against a single player, Ill almost certainly check against multiple players because I dont want to give someone the chance to raise behind me and force me to give up chips I dont need to waste.
If someone does bet and another player calls, I can very easily give up my hand without having lost too much. If, on the other hand, someone else bets and the action folds back to me, I can determine whether I want to fold, call or possibly even raise in an attempt to steal the pot myself.
When all is said and done, the key to playing over-cards successfully is not to fall in love with your starting hand no matter how pretty it may first appear. Play your hand smart after the flop and you can avoid an ugly result.

Do you think it's ever possible to talk TOO much about disability-related topics? The only time I feel like I'm drowning in disability is if other aspects of a situation or my identity are being ignored. It irritates me when people assume that the most important thing I have in common with another friend who also uses a wheelchair must be our modes of transportation.
